Simple monitoring is no longer enough

I said so back in 2016

Oliver Skadow · REvilo Consulting

When I was interviewed by the energy trade press in 2016 as managing director of green4net GmbH about Germany's IT Security Act (IT-SiG), the subject was cyber security, mandatory incident reporting and the protection of critical infrastructure. One sentence from back then has stuck with me – the magazine etz even made it a headline:

"Simple monitoring is no longer enough."— Oliver Skadow, etz 10/2016

Back then I meant it from an IT-security angle: the monitoring of a PV or wind plant must not sit in isolation alongside the IT – the two belong together in a higher-level controlling layer that minimises risk and keeps performance in view.

Today: same idea, different angle

With REvilo, the same core idea holds today – just from a different angle: when it comes to yield, too, simple monitoring is not enough. A plant can show "green" in monitoring and still lose yield year after year. What it takes is the neutral view from the outside and a target value that shows what the plant should really be delivering.

That is exactly what the EYENOD Audit is for: the independent check up front. It compares actual performance against a precise target value and reveals what ongoing monitoring misses – before an investment, before an acquisition, or simply to gain certainty about your own plant, before a hidden weakness turns into an expensive permanent state.

Eight years, two angles – the same conviction: those who only watch the green light see too little.
